Winter teaches us to adapt—our layers, our mindsets and our outdoor adventures. Dog sledding is a unique activity, in it requires you to work alongside a team of both peers and dogs to travel across frozen lakes and snow-drenched wilderness. Rotating between the roles of a musher, someone who steers the sled, and a skier, the one breaking trail ahead of the dogs, you get the chance to wear many shoes—learning the ins and outs of winter travel as you go. Your Instructors supply you with the wilderness education necessary to keep warm in the freezing temperatures, covering topics on winter camping, snow travel and cold weather safety. The extreme weather beckons you to draw on your inner reserves of strength, teamwork and resilience—qualities that stick with you beyond the wilderness.

Dog sledding expeditions take place in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, Minnesota. With over 1,200 miles of canoe routes, the Boundary Waters is a beacon for summer adventures, and more importantly, a winter wonderland that’s both mesmerizing and peaceful for those brave enough to experience it. This winter landscape is full of natural wonders, challenges, lessons and accomplishments to be discovered by each unique crew of students who venture out into its beauty.
