Moonlight Labradors

I started my life in dogs about 20 years ago. I worked at a dog rescue to get experience for vet school, and along the way found a love for training dogs. I rescued Buddy, an anxious retriever mix with multiple bites on his record, and with him I learned a lot about dog training and life with dogs. Learning to train with Buddy started as a way to "fix" him and eventually turned into a career as a dog trainer. When I started training, I cared more about the dogs than the humans, and I expected humans to go above and beyond and do whatever was necessary for the dog that lived in their home, as I had done with Buddy. I devoted my young life to learning about dogs and dog training. I read books, studied training videos, went to every training seminar I could find, and worked in different shelters and dog daycares. I loved Buddy to death, but after years of struggling to "rehabilitate" him, I realized that learning to manage him and his behavior was the best I could do. It was exhausting and majorly limited my life in my 20's. When he died at 16, as sad as it was, a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders, as I no longer had to carry the burden of keeping him and everyone around him safe. After this, my perspective shifted greatly, from one where everything should revolve around the dog, to one where the dog and human relationship should be more compatible and enjoyable. One day I got to hang out with a bunch of Labradors. They were friendly, easy going and happy go lucky. After years of training working dogs and difficult pet dogs, it was clear to me that a well bred Labrador is the dog that is most compatible with the average person. I truly believe that every dog owner deserves a happy and healthy dog, and I especially believe that our dogs deserve to be happy, healthy and well bred.
