took Boba in for her usual grooming appointment and the groomer mentioned that Corgis actually have a double coat that needs specific brushing technique, not just a regular brush like she'd been getting from me at home 😅 apparently I've been doing it wrong this whole time (oops) and undercoat buildup can cause skin issues if it's not managed properly, especially in warmer months. she showed me the right tool and technique before I left. just wanted to pass this along in case other corgi owners are doing what I was doing lol, definitely going back for proper grooming more regularly now ❤️🐾

We learned something similar with our Lab actually — also double-coated, and we'd been under-brushing for a while before a groomer corrected our technique too. Seems like a pretty common thing people don't know until someone points it out. Glad you caught it before it became a bigger issue.

Good catch by the groomer. Same applies to Malinois — double coat needs the right tool, not just any brush. Skin issues from trapped undercoat are completely preventable if you know what you're doing, which most people don't find out until told.
This is a really useful thing to share, and it's a common gap in double-coated breed care — a slicker brush or standard pin brush often just removes the top coat without addressing the undercoat, which is exactly where buildup and skin issues develop. An undercoat rake, used properly, makes a big difference, especially during seasonal shedding.
