Most dogs shed twice a year, typically in the spring and fall. This is known as seasonal shedding:

Spring shedding: Dogs lose their thicker winter coat to prepare for warmer weather.

Fall shedding: They shed their lighter summer coat to make room for a heavier winter coat.
