okay I need to gush for a second because Biscuit (Pomeranian, 5 months) has developed SO much personality this past month and I wasn't prepared for it!! she has opinions about EVERYTHING now — which blanket she sleeps on, which treats are "acceptable," even which shoes I wear apparently because she barks at my sneakers but not my sandals lol 😭 is this normal Pom behavior or do I just have a tiny diva on my hands? also if anyone has tips for the barking thing specifically I would love them, it's the one part I'm not totally sure how to handle yet! everything else I'm just enjoying honestly, this little dog has my whole heart 💕🐶

The barking is manageable if you start now rather than later. Don't reward the bark by reacting to it (even attention counts as reward to a puppy). Wait for a pause, then reward the pause. Consistency over a few weeks will shift this significantly.
Pomeranians are well known for developing strong opinions early — it's consistent with the breed's general alertness and intelligence. On the shoe barking specifically: this is likely a visual/texture trigger rather than true discrimination between shoe types, possibly the shine or shape of the sneakers catching her attention differently. A "quiet" cue with reward the moment she stops barking, introduced consistently now, will generalize well at this age.
This is so sweet?? Daisy is going through something similar at almost 5 months too, suddenly very opinionated about things she didn't care about a month ago lol. I don't have Pom-specific advice but just wanted to say I relate so much to the "tiny diva" energy, feels like such a normal puppy phase stage!!
