Confession: forgot Waldo needed heartworm prevention because I'm used to thinking about winter,

Up here in Fargo my whole mental calendar is built around snow and cold, not mosquito season, so it genuinely slipped my mind this year until the vet brought it up at his checkup. Thin-coated breed too, so I'd assumed less exposure somehow, which apparently isn't really how any of this works. Got him caught up and on a proper schedule now, lesson learned for next summer.

Glad the vet caught it before it became a real problem. Fargo brain versus mosquito season, quite the matchup this year.

Ha, I get this completely, cold-climate brain just doesn't default to bug season thinking. If anyone's curious about the breed, listing page here: https://allinpets.com/pets/cats/cornish-rex/

Coat thickness has no bearing on mosquito exposure risk, a reasonable assumption that simply isn't accurate. There's a solid piece explaining exactly this misconception, including the section on cats: https://allinpets.com/blog/dogs/heartworm-prevention-for-dogs-doses-testing-and-treatment-63/
