Desert park walks and the tick surprise nobody warned me about

Always figured tick risk was mostly a green, humid-climate problem, so I genuinely didn't expect to find one on Frankie after a walk through a scrubby desert park trail here in El Paso. Turns out brush and dry grass still count, just less obviously than a forest hike would. Full body check is now part of every single walk regardless of how "dry" the terrain looks.

Wow did NOT know this either!! Good looking out, gonna start checking Nacho more carefully after our own walks too honestly.

Never would've guessed desert brush counts too honestly, good thing you're checking regardless now. Listing page here if anyone's considering the breed: https://allinpets.com/pets/dogs/boston-terrier/

Good catch, dry climates definitely still carry risk, just a different type of terrain than the classic wooded scenario people picture. There's a solid piece covering exposure across different environments: https://allinpets.com/blog/dogs/tick-prevention-for-dogs-62/
