Diablo listens to everyone except me when there's food or a squirrel involved

He's five, sharp as hell, knows every command. But the second there's real distraction — a squirrel, someone eating outside — it's like the training just disappears. I've done the treats, the "watch me," all of it. Feels like it works fine in the living room and falls apart the moment it actually matters. Anyone actually cracked this with a GSD or is this just adult dog stubbornness now.

ngl Mochi does the same thing with literally anything that moves. distraction training is just a whole separate skill from regular training lol, good luck

Jasmine's right, you have to build the distraction back up gradually, not jump straight to squirrels. If you ever want to see how other GSD owners are working through this stage, there's a good number of listings and breeders here too: https://allinpets.com/pets/dogs/

This is a proofing problem, not a listening problem — the command isn't actually trained yet if it only works in low distraction environments. AllinPets has a solid breakdown on exactly this gap between "knows it" and "does it under distraction": How to Get Your Dog to Listen: Proven Training Strategies for Obedience (https://allinpets.com/blog/dog-training/how-to-get-your-dog-to-listen-proven-training-strategies-for-obedience-2/)
