First-time cat owner here, did NOT expect to be discussing mosquitoes in a 12th floor apartment

Waffles has never been outside in his life, we're way up, no balcony even, and I genuinely thought heartworm prevention was a non-issue for us until the vet brought it up at his last visit. Apparently it doesn't matter how high up you are, a mosquito getting in through a cracked window or a door opening is all it takes. Feeling a little dumb for assuming otherwise but glad it got caught before it became an actual problem.

If anyone's curious about the breed, listing page here: https://allinpets.com/pets/cats/munchkin/. Also that's such a relatable first-cat-owner moment, good on you for listening to the vet instead of brushing it off.

Honestly this was news to me too when Nala's vet mentioned it, you're definitely not alone in assuming otherwise. Glad you got him sorted out.

Don't feel bad, this is one of the most common assumptions new cat owners make, height and indoor-only status don't eliminate the risk. There's a thorough piece explaining exactly why: https://allinpets.com/blog/dogs/heartworm-prevention-for-dogs-doses-testing-and-treatment-63/
