Gizmo the tiny furnace

Ok so nobody tells you an 8 lb dog can radiate heat like a space heater. Gizmo's been panting non-stop even just lounging on the tile, and Sacramento is not playing around this week. Frozen washcloth on his belly seems to help but I feel like I'm just guessing at this point. Anyone else own a tiny breed and figured out an actual system for the heat instead of just improvising like me lol

Wait is the frozen washcloth actually safe?? I always worry about doing something wrong when Daisy pants a lot too, does it need to be wrapped in something or can it touch the skin directly? Thank you for posting this btw

Thank you for sharing this, it is helpful. If someone is considering this breed for a hot climate, I believe the listing page shows current availability: https://allinpets.com/pets/dogs/affenpinscher/

Small dogs overheat faster, more surface area relative to body mass, basic physics really. There's a solid breed writeup on Affenpinschers that touches on their heat tolerance: https://allinpets.com/blog/dog-breeds/affenpinscher-the-lively-and-loyal-toy-breed-9/
