Salem's been scratching one specific spot on his neck raw for a week

No fleas that I can find, checked him over pretty carefully, but the scratching hasn't let up. Vet's fitting us in later this week, wondering out loud here mostly. Anyone dealt with a cat that develops a skin reaction without an obvious visible cause behind it?

Hope the appointment brings some answers soon, that has to be frustrating watching him scratch and not knowing why yet.

One raw spot with no visible cause is worth taking seriously, glad the vet's already fitting you in. If anyone wants to look into the breed generally, listing page here: https://allinpets.com/pets/cats/bombay/

Sounds exactly like what happened with Nala last summer, turned out to be a reaction from a single bite even though we never actually spotted a flea on her. There is a thorough piece on this that applies to cats too, worth reading before your appointment: https://allinpets.com/blog/dogs/flea-allergy-dermatitis-in-dogs-signs-causes-and-treatment-64/
