Someone crossed the street with their kid today because of Rocco and he was just sitting there waggi

This happens more than people would believe. Rocco is the friendliest dog at the park, loves everyone, and I still get the double-take, the wide berth, sometimes worse. I'm tired but also just tired of explaining the same thing over and over to strangers who've already made up their mind.

This happens with sighthounds too, funnily enough, just for opposite reasons, people assume Freya is too fragile to even pet. Different assumption, same tired feeling of being pre-judged before anyone meets the dog.

#dog #breed #temperament

People really do judge before they even ask a single question, it's wild. If it helps, there's a good number of AmStaff breeders and listings here too for anyone actually curious about the breed instead of scared of it: https://allinpets.com/pets/dogs/

This is exhausting and I believe you, it's a real pattern with this breed specifically. There's a good writeup on AmStaffs that actually gets into the temperament honestly instead of the usual assumptions: American Staffordshire Terrier: Strength, Loyalty, and Heart in One Bold Companion (https://allinpets.com/blog/dog-breeds/american-staffordshire-terrier-strength-loyalty-and-heart-in-one-bold-companion-8/)
