Sunscreen. For my cat. This is my life now.

Ember has zero fur, which means zero protection from the sun, which means I am now applying pet-safe sunscreen to a cat who is deeply unimpressed by this development. New Orleans sun does not play and her ears especially burn if she naps in a sunny window too long. If you own a hairless breed and haven't started doing this yet, please learn from my mistakes, she got a mild burn on one ear last month before I wised up.

Ah, the plight of the sunbathing Sphynx, quel dilemme. Freya at least has her coat to shield her though she'd never admit to needing protection of any kind. Poor Ember, give her ear a gentle kiss from me

Also worth just tracking direct sun exposure time in the room with a cheap UV window film or moving her bed out of the hot spot hours. If anyone needs an actual vet consult for burn treatment, services page has options: https://allinpets.com/services/

So important, hairless breeds genuinely need the same sun protection logic as human skin, no fur buffer at all. There's good background on coat-related heat and sun sensitivity across breeds here (mostly about the bigger coated ones but the contrast is useful): https://allinpets.com/blog/cats/top-10-largest-cat-breeds-that-ll-steal-your-heart-18/
