Adjusting a cold-climate breed to a very hot climate
I am still learning how much extra care Storm needs here in Dallas compared to what a Husky is built for originally. We walk only before 7am now, and I purchased a cooling mat for inside the house that has helped very much. I would like to ask other Husky owners in hot states, is there anything more I should be doing that I have not thought of yet.

You're clearly putting in the extra effort for him and it shows. Storm's lucky you're paying such close attention instead of just assuming he'll adjust on his own
Also worth checking paw pads on hot pavement even at 7am if the ground's still holding heat from the day before. If anyone's considering the breed for a hot climate, listing page is here: https://allinpets.com/pets/dogs/husky/
Cooling mat is a smart move, that breed's coat was never meant for that kind of climate honestly. General piece on safe outdoor timing covers a lot of the same logic: https://allinpets.com/blog/dogs/rules-for-spending-time-with-your-pet-outdoors-in-summer-20/
