Figured a dry desert climate meant minimal mosquito exposure, reasonable assumption on paper, wrong in practice according to the vet. He gets supervised yard time in the evenings when it cools off, which turns out to be exactly when mosquito activity picks up even out here. Kept him on prevention year round after that conversation, no exceptions based on the climate alone.
