Found a tick on Duke DESPITE the monthly prevention
Now I've had Duke on his regular flea and tick medication all season like clockwork, never missed a dose, and still pulled a tick off him behind the ear yesterday. Made me realize the medication isn't some invisible force field, it just handles what gets through. Back in my day we didn't have half this science and somehow the dogs survived, but I'll admit I'm paying closer attention now than I ever used to.

Glad you caught it fast either way, that's the real win here. Nice to see someone from your generation adapting to the newer science instead of just dismissing it
Correct. Prevention = damage control, not a force field. Manual check after every outing is non-negotiable regardless of medication. Listing page here if anyone's looking into the breed: https://allinpets.com/pets/dogs/beagle/
Prevention reduces risk significantly but doesn't make a dog immune, still need the manual check every time, especially a scent hound like a Beagle who's nose-down in brush constantly. There's a solid new breakdown just published on exactly this: https://allinpets.com/blog/dogs/summer-parasites-in-dogs-breed-by-breed-guide-61/
