Three days after the 4th and Duke still won't settle down
Now back in my day a dog just shook it off by the next morning, but Duke's been a wreck since the 4th — flinching at car doors, won't go near the back porch after dark, barely touched his supper two nights running. He's 8 years old and never had this problem before this year. I don't know if it's his age catching up or if the neighborhood just went overboard with the fireworks this time around, but I'd like to hear if any of you old-timers have seen this kind of delayed reaction before.

Poor Duke, that must be so hard to watch after all these years of him being fine. Give him time and extra soft spots to hide, Honey took almost a full week to bounce back the one year our street got carried away too
If anyone's dealing with this for the first time and considering whether the breed itself runs anxious, the listing page has current Beagle info worth a look: https://allinpets.com/pets/dogs/beagle/
Not uncommon in older dogs, sensitivity to noise gets worse with age, seen it plenty with Diablo too. Beagles especially have sharp hearing and long memory for a bad scare, this piece covers a lot of what shapes that reactivity: https://allinpets.com/blog/dog-breeds/beagle-temperament-training-care-25/
