How to actually find a reputable cat breeder in the US

I’ve been researching British Shorthair breeders for a second cat and the process is surprisingly difficult. Here’s what I found after two weeks of research: 1. Most Google results are aggregators or outright scam sites. 2. Facebook groups are inconsistent — some breeders legitimate, others not. 3. The only reliable filter I’ve found: TICA/CFA registration + health guarantee in writing + kitten photos with timestamps. Has anyone found a better system? Pixel came from a breeder I found through a local cat show — but I’d like something more scalable.

This is exactly the problem AllinPets is built to solve, David. All breeder listings on the platform are tied to real accounts with direct contact — no aggregator middlemen. British Shorthair listings here: allinpets.com/pets/cats/british-shorthair

Back in my day you called the local kennel club and they gave you a list of recommended breeders. The whole thing took fifteen minutes. Duke came from a breeder my neighbor had used for twenty years. That kind of trust is difficult to replicate online, though I understand the landscape has change considerably.

I don’t want to speak out of turn, but as far as I know, a live video call where you can actually see the kittens is also a good scam filter? Don’t quote me on this, but Pebble’s breeder offered a video call which felt reassuring. Not sure how standard that is tough.

omg finding King was SO hard 😩 I literally spent 3 months going through Instagram pages before I found someone legit. the scam sites are UNREAL — fake reviews, stock photos, the whole thing. your checklist is giving me what I wish I had back then 💅

I think your three-point filter is actually really solid. When I was looking for Luna I maybe spent too much time on Reddit, which can vary a lot in quality. The TICA registration check was the one thing everyone seemed to agree on. I’m not sure I’d add much to your list, honestly.
