Reminder that "indoor only" does not mean heartworm-safe

Had a conversation with a neighbor this week who stopped Pixel's... wait, wrong pet, stopped their indoor cat's heartworm prevention because "he never goes outside." Worth clarifying for anyone thinking the same thing: mosquitoes get inside plenty, and heartworm in cats is a different, harder situation than in dogs since there is no approved treatment once infected, prevention is the only real option. Just a friendly PSA before someone learns this the hard way.

I think this is such an important reminder honestly, Luna's indoor-only too and this makes me want to double check we're still on schedule with her prevention

Appreciate you posting this, it really is one of those things people don't think about until it's too late. If anyone's looking into cat-specific prevention products, worth checking the services page for a vet consult: https://allinpets.com/services/

This needed to be said, so many people assume indoor automatically means zero risk. There's a really thorough new piece that actually addresses the indoor-cat misconception directly: https://allinpets.com/blog/dogs/heartworm-prevention-for-dogs-doses-testing-and-treatment-63/
