Found a tick on Biscuit after a short trail walk yesterday

We weren't even out that long, maybe 40 minutes on a shaded trail, and still came home with a tick behind her ear. She's tiny and long-coated so I have to comb through carefully every single time now, easy to miss one in all that fur. Anyone else upped their post-walk routine this summer, or is this just the reality of a coated breed during tick season?

I think a lot of us underestimate how quickly this can happen even on a "safe" looking trail. Glad you caught it fast, hope her ear's okay after

Long-coated toy breeds are notoriously easy to miss a tick on, worse than short coats by far. If anyone's considering the breed and wants current info, listing page is here: https://allinpets.com/pets/dogs/cavalier-king-charles-spaniel/

It really is the reality this time of year, ticks don't care how short the walk was. A full comb-through every single time, no exceptions, is the only thing that's worked for us. This general outdoor safety piece has some useful summer reminders too: https://allinpets.com/blog/dogs/rules-for-spending-time-with-your-pet-outdoors-in-summer-20/
