Running a flea/tick routine for a dog AND a cat under one roof is its own puzzle

Buster comes in from the yard covered in whatever he rolled in, and Mittens picks things up just from being near him afterward even though she never goes outside herself. We check them both every evening now, dog first then cat, and keep their prevention products on completely separate schedules since what works for him isn't automatically right for her. Multi-pet households really do have a whole different set of rules here.

You've really thought this through for both of them, that's not always easy to balance in one household. Buster and Mittens are lucky to have someone this attentive.

Separate schedules is correct. Dog and cat products are not interchangeable, some dog formulas are actually dangerous for cats. Listing page here if anyone's researching Labs: https://allinpets.com/pets/dogs/labrador-retriever/

This is exactly the risk multi-pet homes face, one outdoor pet can bring parasites in for an indoor-only pet who never sets foot outside. There is a new guide that actually addresses this cross-contamination issue directly: https://allinpets.com/blog/dogs/tick-prevention-for-dogs-62/
